Richert Beil Sale, Festive Fun at Platte, Farewell Parties

Agenda Edition #25 / 05.12-08.12 / Current mood: Treat yourself

Hi, and welcome back to agenda - got plans?, a newsletter featuring a curated selection of art, design, and fashion events in Berlin. I'm Kate, a freelance journalist, Berlin local, and art lover. I hope my newsletter makes it a bit easier for you to navigate everything this city has to offer.

That said, I hope you’re doing well! As for me, I’m still deep in work mode and can hardly believe it’s already the second Advent this Sunday – or December, for that matter. If you’re like me, trying to ease into the festive season without diving headfirst into traditional Christmas clichés, I’ve picked out a few events that strike a balance: a little festive, a little stylish, and definitely not your typical holiday fare.

And if you’d like to give me a little pre-Christmas gift, consider becoming a member if you enjoy this newsletter – and don’t forget to share it with your friends! Your support helps keep agenda - got plans? going.

#1 Free entry and guided tour at Julia Stoscheck Collection on Thursday!

I’ve already mentioned the recent exhibition at the Julia Stoschek Foundation in one of my previous newsletters (check it out here! (Opens in a new window)) and shared how I discovered my favorite art installation of the year there. If you haven’t had a chance to visit yet, consider stopping by on Thursday evening. Admission is free, and there’s a guided tour at 19:00 – a perfect opportunity to explore the exhibit!

Julia Stoschek Foundation
Thursday, 05.12, 18:00-22:00

#2 Shop the Richert Beil Archive Sale

If you’ve been following this newsletter for a while, you know I’m not the biggest fan of sample sales in Berlin—they often feel a bit like a scam. But there are exceptions! For example, William Fan always puts on a pretty great sale (and he’s usually there in person, which I really admire). This weekend, there’s another one I’m excited about: the first archive and fabric sale by Berlin-based brand Richert Beil. Promising exclusive Italian fabrics, high-quality garments, and up to 80% off, it’s a great opportunity to snag some beautiful pieces.

Richert Beil Archive Sale
Saturday and Sunday, 07.-08.12, 10:30-19:30
Location: BAM Showroom, Ritterstrasse 8, 10969 Berlin
Cash and Paypal, no return or exchanges

#3 Say Goodbye to Trauma Bar und Kino and Watergate this weekend

I usually don’t recommend parties here – after all, we have the RA Guide for that. But this weekend features two farewell events I can’t ignore. First up, Trauma Bar und Kino will be closing its doors on Saturday. While it’s bittersweet, the move isn’t a huge surprise, as the cultural space shifts its focus to becoming a global player, leaving Berlin to allow for greater flexibility in exploring new venues worldwide.

If you want to soak up the full Trauma vibe one last time, grab your tickets for Saturday night. The live headliner is Kiss Facility, a collaboration between Emirati singer-songwriter Mayah Alkhateri and producer Salvador Navarrete (Sega Bodega). Plus, there’s an impressive lineup of DJs who’ve helped shape Berlin’s local club scene, including Nico Adomako, Why Be, Mobilegirl, and Oli XL.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month, you’ve probably heard that Watergate is also closing its doors this year. Say your goodbyes on Sunday evening at their farewell event, featuring sets from Freddy K, J Tool, DJ Red, and Constanza.

#5 Now More Than Ever: Museum Sunday

When it was announced that Berlin would cut a significant portion of funding for cultural institutions next year, it came as a shock—at least to me. Berlin’s charm, for me, rests on three pillars: the art scene, club culture, and food. If the first two are fading away and dining experiences keep getting pricier with every new fine dining spot, what will this city become in the long run? Another Munich? (No offense, but you know what I mean.)

One of the first casualties of the city’s budget-saving plan was Museumssonntag—the beloved initiative that offered free entry to Berlin’s museums on the first Sunday of every month.

I truly hope you’ll continue to enjoy art and support local cultural institutions – even if you have to pay some admission fee from now on.

Here are my top picks for your personal Museumssonntag:

  • Alte Nationalgalerie: A true classic! I overlooked it for years, but visiting feels like strolling through a mini-Louvre. Perfect for a peaceful time-out on a gray Sunday afternoon. More info (Opens in a new window)

  • Schinkel Pavillion: Contemporary sculpture, installation, and media art housed in a former DDR building. Sometimes I breeze through their exhibitions in minutes; other times, I spend a good hour—it all depends on the show. Definitely one of Berlin’s finest art institutions. • Kindl: The KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art presents temporary exhibitions of international contemporary art in a former brewery building with more than 1,600 square metres of exhibition space in Kreuzberg. Love the vibe there! More info (Opens in a new window)

And that’s it for now! I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
