Two award ceremonies this summer at the town hall honoured 82 individuals and teams for their service to the community, as part of the Reigate & Banstead Volunteer Awards 2024.
The first evening, on 11 July, saw the presentation of 33 Long Service Awards (S'ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre) (10 years or more). The award was created this year to commemorate the borough council’s 50th anniversary.
A further 49 individuals and teams (S'ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre) were recognised on 31 July in the categories of Young Volunteer (up to 25 years old), Individual Volunteer (over 25 years), Individual Trustee and Volunteer Team.
At both ceremonies the mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Cllr Eddy Humphreys, presented certificates and thanked volunteers for their efforts, referring to them as an “inspiration”.
After the first evening, he noted that “recent years have highlighted just how essential volunteers are to our communities especially our most vulnerable residents”, and at the second he said: “The work that volunteers do in our communities is immeasurable. We are all very grateful, and I want to thank you all for giving so much of your time up to make a difference in other people’s lives.”
The awards were established over 20 years ago and are organised by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council in partnership with Voluntary Action Reigate & Banstead.
