Film Recommendation
When it comes to imposing, forbidding, abandon-hope-all-ye-who-enter-here-type cinema, Hungary’s Béla Tarr is often the first name that springs to mind. Though he is perhaps best known for the somnambulic, seven-hour allegory, Sátántangó, from 1994, it was only until 2000 that he struck big with his shorter, no-less-allegorical opus, Werckmeister Harmonies. Which, as it so happens, is on re-release in the UK this week in its new 4K restoration.
