A recommendation: Old Henry

Another worthwhile recommendation for everyone - Old Henry, written and directed by filmmaker Potsy Ponciroli. This just opened in select theaters on October 1st (S'ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre) - check your local listings. It should also be available on VOD soon.

In the action western film, Tim Blake Nelson stars as a humble farmer who takes in an injured man with a satchel of cash. When a posse comes for the money, he must decide who to trust. Defending against a siege, he reveals a gunslinging talent calling his true identity into question. Who is he? Is he really the farmer he says he is? The answers lie within the film, and once you find out you'll be grinning from ear to ear.

This premiered at the 2021 Venice Film Festival a few weeks back. I finally caught up with it recently and I had a great time with it. The film definitely has a John Wick-as-a-western vibe, but Tim Blake Nelson kicks ass as "Old Henry" and makes it stand out on its own. And the film is perfectly shot and paced. I was impressed by the way it looks and the clean flow of the dialogue, so natural yet cinematic with the lightest of touches. If you're in the mood for a modern western filled with suspense, this one is worth your time.
