Little Islands of escapism: Berlin Fall Guide for Art, Fashion and Performance

Agenda Edition #23 / 30.10- 03.11 / Current mood: Take a break

Hi, and welcome back to agenda - got plans?, a newsletter featuring a curated selection of art, design, and fashion events in Berlin. I'm Kate, a freelance journalist, Berlin local, and art lover. I hope my newsletter makes it a bit easier for you to navigate everything this city has to offer.

That said, I had to put the newsletter on hold for the past two weeks due to life’s demands—but I’m thrilled to be back, ready to share some beautiful fall events. The theme this time: Take a break from reality—if only for a few hours. Personally, I’m craving those little islands of escapism right now: places where we can forget the gloomy autumn, gray skies, daily hassles, and the chaos of the world. This guide is a bit more timeless than my usual newsletters, I hope you like it <3

#1 Enjoy a beautiful dance performace at The Feuerle Collection

Last week, I was invited to the premiere of a dance performance by artist Po-Nien Wang at The Feuerle Collection. Titled Prélude to Mountain Ghost, it was the most raw and elegant dance I’ve seen in a while —each movement expressing a blend of struggle, love, suffering, and play. Inspired by an ancient Chinese poem, the performance delves into deep themes of beauty, identity, sexuality, and sensuality. I loved the intimate atmosphere: there’s no traditional stage; instead, Po-Nien Wang dances through the darkened exhibition space of The Feuerle Collection, allowing the audience to follow closely.

An integral part of the experience was tea practitioner Lin Wang, who performed a Gongfu Cha tea ceremony as an opening act. After the show, guests were offered naturally brewed Ancient Tree White Tea.

The entire experience lasts around one and a half hours and, for me, was a perfect escape from reality. If you’re interested, performances will be held on October 30th, October 31st, November 13th, November 21st, and December 4th. Tickets are 38€.

Prélude to Mountain Ghost Dance Performance
30.10, 31.10, 13.11, 21.11 and 04.12.
Location: The Feuerle Collection, Hallesches Ufer 70, 10963, Berlin

#2 Visit “After Images” at Julia Stoschek Collection

If I had to recommend just one exhibition this fall, this would be it. Known for its focus on image-based practices like film and video, the foundation takes a different approach this time: the exhibition expands beyond the visual to embrace the haptic and multisensory, inviting visitors to journey from the screen into an embodied, experiential space.

Picture: Tower of Silence by LABOUR

I can’t remember the last time an artwork moved me as deeply as Tower of Silence (2024) by Labour. This large-scale, multisensory installation truly captivated me. Without giving too much away, every half hour, participants experience a breathtaking activation of sound and light. It felt like stepping onto an entirely different planet: the vibrating subwoofers and intricate lighting patterns aim to bring you to the edge of perception—and for me, it worked. I could have spent hours there, watching, listening, and feeling the immense power of this artwork.

If you visit, be sure to watch the entire 30-minute performance from beginning to end. It’s absolutely worth it.

#3 (Window) Shopping at Embassade Berlin

Have you checked out Berlin’s newest concept store yet? Founded by fashion designer Lucas Meyer-Leclère, Embassade showcases local fashion designers, a beautifully curated vintage selection by Halleluja Berlin, artworks, jewelry, ceramics, and fragrances—all from Berlin-based brands like Richert Beil and Roelen Perfume, to name a few.

I visited the store last week and was not only warmly welcomed but also given a guided tour through the entire space. It’s something I often miss in Berlin: shops where you feel genuinely welcomed as a customer and get insights into the curated selection.

Last but not least: A few thoughts about the Miista Sample Sale

If you haven’t been living under a rock, you probably heard about the Miista sample sale in Berlin last week. Everyone and their grandma was in line to get their hands on these sought-after shoes, with TikTok buzzing like crazy. Here’s my two cents on this type of fashion event: sample sales can be a great way to snag leftover stock and unique pieces at a bargain. BUT promoting your regular sale stock as a “sample sale”—with the same prices you'd find online? Feels... a bit cheeky.

Honestly, Miista isn’t the first miss. Berlin’s sample sale scene has taken a real hit recently. Labeling something as “Archive” or “Sample” nowadays seems to be nothing more than a marketing ploy—either to offload leftovers from past collections or push products you could probably find cheaper elsewhere. What’s your opinion on this? Have you been to a really good sample sale in recent months in Berlin?
