South Africa is desperately in need of quality political opinion and analysis.
Politicians are generally surrounded by people who tell them what they want to hear, not what they need to know. Our media meanwhile is thick with 'false friends', commentators who claim to care deeply about the ANC government or the DA as an opposition, but somehow never warn of approaching dangers in good time, and who always provide seductive but ruinous advice as to what needs to be done.
A free and critical press then is essential to the health of any constitutional democracy. Good journalism meanwhile is the product of time, thought and expertise. If no-one pays for it, it will ultimately steadily decline in quality, and then finally disappear. If someone else pays for it - not you - they will call the tune.
Our supporter programme is the bulwark of our publication, and the guarantee of our independence. Simply put, the more subscribers we have the stronger we become, the better the content you will be able to read, and the greater our influence on the public debate.
What you need to know
By becoming a supporter you gain access - once signed in - to the reader optimised version of the site, with all intrusive in-text and native advertising removed. You will also have access to our advanced search functionality which allows you to directly search the entirety of our massive archive of South African political material, and not just the most recent items. You will also gain access to members only content.
There are three standard supporter options (see below) depending on what you feel you can afford. Pricing is currently in US dollars.
At an exchange rate of R15 to the dollar the three options would work out to:
SUPPORTER: R60 per month if you pay a year (R760) upfront on the annual option.
BIG SUPPORTER: R90 per month if you pay a year (R1 080) upfront on the annual option. As an additional benefit you are able to invite one person to join you as a guest member.
MASSIVE SUPPORTER: R120 per month if you pay a year (R1 920) upfront on the annual option. As an additional benefit you can invite two people to join you as guest members.
Our CHRISTMAS SPECIAL offer, available until the 1st January 2021, works out to R50 per month on the R600 upfront.
At any point you can cancel your renewal, before the next payment is due, at a simple click of the button.
Up until the New Year plans will be available on the ANNUAL option only.
