Our mission is to demystify and document Africa-China relations at the macro and micro levels. We do this by providing a human and grassroots element to the pressing stories of our times. We want our readers to leave our platform feeling informed and ‘in the loop’- most of our audience has never visited China, much less lived in the country, and yet the increase in interactions between their nations of origin and China necessitates the development of a deeper understanding of these ties.

At this critical juncture in China’s ascent to global power status, we believe our mission has never been as important as it is today. Created and run by African and diasporic students and recent graduates all with first-hand experience of life, work, and studies in China, we use our insights and draw on the experiences of our community to fulfill our mission.

If the past ten years have proven anything, it's that China is certainly paying attention to our communities, countries, and continent(s) of origin. This holds true for the Caribbean and parts of Latin America too - but are we paying attention to China? How much do we understand about China, its culture and the worldview which informs the nation's engagement with us?

We believe that the experiences and voices of Africans and people of African descent in China or with experiences of Chinese actors in their respective countries is crucial to developing an understanding of China that can be leveraged to ensure engagement of any kind with the country benefits our communities.

There is a desperate need for independent, informed and unbiased coverage and media of this kind - and this is where Black Livity China comes in.
